The Surf, Sea & Explore Zone brings together passionate marine experts, interactive exhibits, and fun-for-all-ages activities celebrating Nova Scotia’s deep connection to the sea.

Throughout the show catch ocean themed movies and educational programming and dive into a masterpiece at the coloring station presented by the Canadian Whale Institute.

The Back to the Sea Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia brings the beauty of local marine life up to eye level. Visitors can interact with and learn about the incredible animals and creatures that call the Atlantic Ocean home. Our mission is to foster curiosity for marine life and inspire a desire to protect the ocean. Discover hands‑on boatbuilding fun with the Nova Scotia Heritage Schooner Rescue Society! Throughout the weekend, students can take part in “Taking the Lines,” a workshop led by Michael Mason of Marine Design Inc., where they’ll learn how to measure a skiff and document its design like a true marine professional. Visitors can also join The Toy Boat Squadron, assembling their own mini vessel from over 200 pre‑cut model boat hulls and hundreds of unique components. And for those feeling artistic, dive into creativity and learn to draw your own skiff—all supplies, guidance, and inspiration provided. Just bring your imagination and explore the world of boats from blueprint to build!
