Learn About How MICA is Preserving the Province's Shorelines!
If you've never heard of MICA (Mahone Islands Conservation Association), you need to head to booth 614 at the 2025 Halifax International Boat Show this February!
There you will discover what a small group of people with a passion for conservation can do! In just 21 years, over 22 islands, island properties and shorelines have been acquired for protection and respectful public use. These unique island habitats are isolated, fragile and rich in biodiversity and offer a quiet sanctuary to connect with nature away from the busyness of the world. These precious spaces are proudly cared for by all those who visit.
Intact, undeveloped shorelines both on islands and the mainland are threatened by development and quickly disappearing. With only 5% of NS shorelines protected and 85% privately owned, conservation is essential. Together we can work to steward and conserve these amazing treasures! Help support MICA's mission by becoming a member or making a donation and become part of the legacy we are creating for current and future generations. (https://mahoneislands.ns.ca/member-actions/)
If you love all aspects of our ocean playground, the Halifax International Boat Show is the place to be! See you there!
Mission: To protect and conserve the natural environment of the islands and shoreline of Mahone Bay, and the traditional, social and recreational opportunities valued by its various communities.
