Have you heard? There's a new school for those looking to learn more about boating, boat building, and other aspects for life on the water. We'd like to introduce you to “Boat School”, part of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on the Halifax Waterfront.

"Boat School is about building boats and belonging.  Programming has been ongoing since 2015, but we are expanding our outreach and capacity with a new Boat School building and marina.  The new center will be a highlight of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and an inspiring addition to the Halifax Waterfront.

This purpose-built facility will feature a net-zero learning environment where youth, particularly those from equity-deserving groups, can construct small craft vessels, work on maritime-skill projects, and participate in on-the-water activities. Designed as an accessible and safe space, Boat School will offer hands-on learning experiences tailored to the diverse needs of youth, including those at risk. Its core programs will focus on boat building and skills development, ranging from one-day workshops to multi-week sessions. Through these activities, youth will have opportunities to enhance problem-solving abilities, foster teamwork, and develop woodworking skills, while building confidence, friendships, and connections to trades and marine industries.

Boat School is dedicated to creating inclusive and transformative experiences that empower participants to discover pride, purpose, and the possibilities of life. By connecting individuals, especially youth with maritime heritage, nature, and hands-on skills such as boat building and on-the-water experiences, the school fosters personal growth and well-being. Boat School enhances the Halifax waterfront and contributes to the development of healthier, more connected communities. Through its programs, participants gain technical skills and a deep sense of connection to the sea and its traditions."
